| Melting Mountains Awareness Program "In Canada, and elsewhere, ski areas now look at snow as an endangered species." Many industries that have heavy emissions of greenhouse gas as a byproduct of their operations are choosing to ignore the warning signs. But there is a growing movement of people and corporations who are concerned about the longterm impact of global warming. The ski industry is particularly vulnerable as they depend on cold weather and precipitation for their livelyhood. Global warming promises warmer and drier winters. Anyone who loves snow sports should be concerned when governments and industries drag their feet over the development of green power and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Take Action As individuals we can begin to act by improving the fuel efficiency of our vehicles, homes, and appliances. But industry is by far the greatest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. We all need to let our government representatives know that we want action from them now. Write a letter to your MP and MPP. Granted, governments are handcuffed by the fact that any penalties imposed on industries will likely have a negative affect on the economy and nobody wants that. There is no easy solution to this dilema but it is time to start putting pressure on our governments to provide strong incentives for green energy and greenhouse gas reduction programs.
