And Then There Were Two
This is the last weekend for Lake Louise and Marmot. With Whistler shutting down the lifts last weekend we are now down to two operating resorts... Sunshine and Blackcomb.

Sunshine - Closes May 20
Blackcomb - Closes June 8

I always like to get in at least one day in May at Sunshine. Soft snow, zero lift lines, sun tanning on a picnic table, and cold pitchers of beer really do it for me. I also have to get in another free day on my Sunshine card. This season the Louise and Sunshine cards were not good value for me. Conditions at Louise weren't great this season and I only made it to Fernie once. So I didn't get my 3rd free day on the Louise card. I only skied Sunshine 3 times this year. That's unusual since I usually get in my 7 days there. The big difference this year was 3 weekend trips to Kicking Horse and 4 weekends where I went backcountry instead of downhill - Oh and there was the Backside Tours trip to Big Mountain in there as well. In my opinion Kicking Horse is by far the best value in the rockies. And it really bugs me that the Louise card doesn't give as good a discount at Fernie. That's just bad customer service.

Show Powderwatch The Love

I was lined up for an 8AM departure from Canmore this morning to enjoy some incredible turns in the 50+ cms at Sunshine. But my father passed away just after dinner this evening. Since I can't be there to enjoy it with you I'd really appreciate a photo or two that I could put up on the web site. I'll dedicate them to Carson (Red) Miller. He was a guy that loved life until his last breath and I'll miss him very much. I hope everyone has a stellar day on the mountain tomorrow!

Adieu Mon Ami's!

This season seemed to be way too short. After this weekend the majority of resorts in Western Canada have now closed. In Fernie people are upset that they didn't get in any spring skiing this year. Powder until closing day. It will be much easier to list who is still open so let's go with that.
Kicking Horse and Red Mountain are closed but they will re-open next weekend for one last kick at the can. KHR is offering $25 lift tickets - I'm going!! Norquay and Sun Peaks are open this week but they'll also be shutting down after next weekend. And that will just leave the die hards. Their closing dates are:

Lake Louise - April 27
Marmot - April 27
Sunshine - May 20
Whistler - Apr 20
Blackcomb - June 8

The end is near my friends but there's still time to get onto the slush a few more times. We might even get a freaky spring snowstorm if we're lucky.
