Wet On The Coast, Dry On The Rocks The forecast for Whistler looks pretty good this week. It is definitely going to be wet and with highs only around 5C the possibility of snow is pretty good. Rain or snow is in the forecast right through until next weekend. In the rockies it looks like mostly sunshine with some cloudy periods all week. Not much precip in the forecast. Monday is looking beautiful with highs approaching 15C. But as the week goes on the temperatures are expected to drop and highs will only be in the 5C range. Colder weather after some hot spring skiing days usually spells poor conditions on anything but groomed runs. Hopefully it will warm up again by next weekend.

The Most Amazing Powder You'll Ever Find In April This is it kids. If you love powder this weekend is the late season treat of the decade. Sunshine has been engulfed in pow and there is snow in the forecast through Monday. Louise and Marmot aren't looking quite so good but they'll be getting snow and everyone will be at Sunshine. Sorry Granola crunchers... not much to report out of Whistler. Sunny and highs around 5C. B0-ring ;o))

The Return of Winter At this point in the season I'm not too keen about winter showing it's ugly mug again. Especially after last weekend when temperatures were in the 20's in Calgary. The outlook for the weekend looks cold and snowy. That's really bad in Calgary but that's pretty good in the mountains. For the rest of the week it is expected to reach highs of just above zero in the sunshine. That should preserve the snow that fell yesterday and today. On the weekend another disturbance is expected to move in and bring some more snow with it. So we could be treated to some mid winter powder in late April. What better way to enjoy an otherwise crappy weekend? And there will be virtually no crowds! There's also snow in the forecast for Whistler on Friday and Saturday. Highs just above zero. Trust me this is a strange weather pattern for this time of year. Not unprecendented but a surprise nonetheless.

Spring Skiing Weekend First of all I'm really sorry for falling behind on my updates. With most of the resorts shutting down and powderwatch visitor traffic dropping off I certainly am less motivated. Add being glued to the Flames vs Sharks games on Wed/Thur and who has time to maintain a website? For those of you who are still keen to get out and do a few turns you can expect some wonderful spring skiing this weekend. From Whistler to Sunshine the skies are looking sunny (maybe a few clouds the further west you get) and the temperaures are above 15C across the board. Mmmmm... slushy snow and cold beer! I'm going to Kicking Horse for closing weekend. They have a great deal going on. If you bring some cans for the foodbank or make a $5 donation your lift ticket will be only $25. That leaves plenty left over to spend in the Eagle's Eye. For details see http://www.kickinghorseresort.com/news/article.asp?ID=59. Enjoy the weather!

Wet, Wet, Whistler Pretty good chance of rain at Whistler Blackcomb on Friday. The forecast is for rain with a high of 9C. But as it cools down over the weekend the rain will turn to snow and it looks like a substantial weather system. I see snow in the forecast right through to next Wednesday. Does this translate into snow over all of Western Canada? Let's have a look at the interior for starters. Sun Peaks does not look too inspiring. There's a 60% chance of Wet snow on Sunday and an 80% chance of light snow next Tuesday. Otherwise it's a mixx of sun and cloud. Down south in Rossland the forecast is for rain/wet snow Sunday Monday with highs of 7C. Sounds sloppy. In the south rockies where the powder just won't quit, I only see a 60% chance of wet snow Sunday. So much for a spectacular closing weekend. But they've already had more than their fair share of snow this year. Castle is calling for a mix of sun and cloud for the next 5 days. In the Columbia Valley there does appear to be some moisture in the air on Friday and Sunday. Warm temperatures could spoil the fun but first tracks Friday morning at Kicking Horse could be very sweet. Hey... surprise! There is snow in the forecast for Louise on Friday and Sunday. It's only 60% chance of light snow but they are really due for something more substantial. I hope they get it. Sunshine is also looking at snow overnight Thursday turning to wet snow by Friday afternoon. Currently, there is no snow in Sunshine's forecast for Sunday. After Friday it looks like sun/cloud until next Wednesday.
