Mountain Weather Forecast posted Friday Mar 5th 2010
Now... the forecast. I go straight to the Whistler forecast now to see what's coming in off the coast. It looks very promising kids. We start with snow on Sunday with potentially good accumulation overnight. Then on Tuesday the forecast is for heavy snow with light snow continuing on Wednesday. I like that - I like it a lot. But this year the snow seems to get caught up in the black hole of Whistler and very small amounts of precip make it eastward. And that appears to be the case again. The snow forecast is similar for the interior but accumulations are much lower - just light snow forecast for Sunday and Tuesday.
The Revelstoke forecast looks a bit more promising with moderate snow forecast for Sun/Tue. There is a tendency for the clouds to get hung up trying to rise over Roger's Pass and sometimes they let go on the Stoke. Seems to be the case this time round. East of the pass the forecast for the Columbia valley is looking a lot like the BC interior. But that's good. I'll take it.
For Lake Louise and Banff there is only a few cms forecast for Monday. Depressing. Can the southern Rockies fare a little better? Uh, no. Fernie, Castle, and Big Mountain have the driest forecast of the lot. They're usually getting hammered with snow or rained on this time of year. All this dryness is very unusual - freaky even.
